In what should have been a routine surgery, María Aderlinda Forero's fallopian tubes were tied after giving birth to her fourth child in 2012.

However, unbeknownst to her, the medical procedure had resulted in a shocking and horrific mistake - doctors had inadvertently left some of their surgical equipment inside her body.

The consequences of this error were disastrous, causing María years of unexplained agony and distress.

María Forero opened up in a candid interview with the Colombian weekly magazine Semana, which was later translated into English.

During the interview, she revealed that in the beginning, she had attributed her pain to the usual after-effects of childbirth.

"Several days later, these pains started," Forero told La Patilla, a Venezuelan news outlet, in another interview.

"They didn't stop, so I started making appointments, and every time I went they sent me to take acetaminophen and that's it."

The pain that María Forero experienced was not just fleeting discomfort - it was a chronic and relentless affliction that grew worse with each passing day.

The debilitating effects of this agony were life-changing, causing her to switch jobs numerous times in a desperate attempt to find some relief.

She had to travel into town on her husband's motorcycle, which was an expensive and challenging journey for her and her family.

Even after arriving at the hospital, the distance from her house was a grueling two-hour trip, as reported by La Patilla.

Despite the efforts of her doctors, who prescribed increasingly potent painkillers like meloxicam, nothing seemed to alleviate the intense and unyielding agony that had become a permanent fixture of her life.

María Forero's pain was not only excruciating but also severely debilitating, making even the simplest tasks impossible.

Each movement for her was agonizing, and sleep was elusive, causing her to suffer even more.

Living in a rural area only compounded her troubles, as the weather would often make the roads impassable during the winter, making it challenging to seek medical attention.

Despite these obstacles, she continued to seek answers, and finally, after nearly a decade of suffering, she was ordered to undergo an MRI scan and ultrasound.

These scans revealed the shocking truth - a needle and thread were lodged in her stomach, causing her years of unrelenting agony.

"He told me that in surgery they left me a needle with thread," she told Semana. "I couldn't believe it and neither could she."

Upon receiving the MRI scan and ultrasound results, María Forero took them to the doctor who had performed her surgery, hoping to receive some answers finally.

“What I need is for them to operate quickly, for them to remove this because I don’t want to die and leave my children,” she said.
