When Amie and her fiance set a date for their wedding, they imagined a picture perfect day. In her head, she imagined the perfect dress, perfect hair, and perfect body. She became very self conscious of her physical appearance and began dieting immediately after giving birth to their third child testing every quick weight loss fad under the sun. Then one day, she woke up in excruciating pain...
#1
Amie spent hours in front of the mirror practicing her wedding poses that would make her look thinner. After all, she had three babies worth of weight packed on to her arms, tummy, and face that she needed to get rid of or hide for the perfect photos that she imagined in her head.
#2
"I was especially obsessed with my face. I would look at every angle, trying to memorize how exactly to stick my tongue to the roof of my mouth so that my double chin would single out for our photos."
#3
In a wicked twist of fate, Amie's obsession over her body and face nearly ruined her big day.
#4
Less than a week prior to her wedding, Amie fell sick with what she had assumed was a wicked bad sinus infection.
#5
Her sinuses were in pain. She had a headache that made the left side of her nose and teeth throb. The pain was so bad that she could not even eat.
#6
After self medicating failed to give her any relief, she finally sought the advice of a doctor who prescribed her antibiotics. Sadly, just a mere three days before her wedding, her face had swollen tremendously.
#7
The pain and swelling were so bad that she cancelled her bachelorette party to go to the emergency room. The swelling had gotten so bad that she could hardly talk or open her left eye. The swelling also began to travel up to her temple which could have become dangerous very quickly.
#8
The emergency room doctors were able to see that she did not have a sinus infection. She had, in fact, an abscessed tooth that was so bad that it had destroyed the gum tissues and was infected clear down to the bone.
#9
Amie had to have emergency surgery. She quickly asked if her face would look normal for her wedding, and the doctor let her know it would take weeks for the swelling to go down.
#10
After her discharge from the hospital, Amie went home and bawled her eyes out. Her perfect day was about to be ruined.
#11
"I couldn't believe this was happening to me. I had a hard time looking at myself in the mirror, yet this would be my face on my wedding day?"
#12
She had obsessed so badly about her arms, tummy, and thighs all for her face to completely betray her. She felt like the universe was making a joke at her expense.
#13
Postponing the wedding was a fleeting thought that had crossed her mind, but it was not going to be plausible.
#14
"I have an incredible support network. People that love me unconditionally and traveled a long way just to see me happy and adored."
#15
"I have three beautiful, healthy and happy little boys that revel in seeing their Mom and Dad together and in love... A man that loves me... He even loves my big, fat face."
#16
You can truly tell that he only has eyes for her.
#17
Postponing was NOT going to be an option, so she carried on with their wedding plans.
#18
It ended up being the whirlwind dream that she had imagined it would be, swollen face and all.
#19
And, even though it was not perfect in the way she had thought it would be prior to the infection coming alone, it was perfect enough. She did wish her face had not been so swollen, but they made the adjustments and had a beautiful ceremony.
#20
Now, she can look back on this day with pride instead of the horror that she thought it would be.
