Because most people despise working, many of us spend our early mornings fantasizing about the day we will be able to retire.

At the same time, as time passes, that period in our life that past generations may have taken for granted appears to become increasingly unlikely for us. While other factors may play a role, the main reason for this is the likelihood that we will not have enough money to retire once we reach the age of 65.

Of course, this is already the case for some senior citizens. And the strong feelings that some people have about how sad this is have inspired one TikToker and her followers to help a DoorDash driver.

While they couldn't reveal his contact information on their own, they stated they could ask him if he consented to his number being handed on to her.

Although the man is generally a private person, Stephens' excitement appears to have won him over, and she and his son were able to communicate with him.

As Stephens shared in another follow-up, "He's been working his entire life and has gone through a lot of hardships."

That is why, before the meeting, Stephens urged her supporters to join forces with her and assist him in his retirement.

Because, as she discovered, 71-year-old Kerry (not seen) works as a security guard in addition to being a DoorDash driver and parenting his two sons alone.

As he would tell Stephens, "My wife died in 2011 and I am a DoorDash Driver to make ends meet."

Stephens' experiences with DoorDash were compounded by health concerns, poor basic pay of $2.50 for each delivery, and the fact that DoorDash's user fees affect the chance of tips, according to a GoFundMe account set up by Stephens.

Stephens' mission, with all of this in mind, was to assist Kerry with quitting at least one of his employment.

Stephens' fans delivered hugely just five days after her initial TikTok about Kerry, raising $39,423 for him at the time of this writing.

She also updated with another message, confirming that he is getting the donations, which are intended to be placed straight into his checking account by the end of each day.

It was evident that his story struck a chord with TikTok fans, who had assumed he was working to keep himself busy rather than to get money.

As one user said, "Sadly our elderly have to work because with the inflation and how much meds cost retirement income doesn't cover it. My dad worked every day."
