Arlen shares her experience of living at Airbnb with her boyfriend for a few months and finding receipts for surveillance at the end of their visit. Arlen says she was left stumped after finding the receipt and as guided by the internet users she tried to find the hidden equipment but was unable to find any. However, since this is illegal, the Airbnb safety team already reached out to the couple and is looking into the case.
Woman Shocked After Finding Receipt Worth $1000 For Surveillance Equipment Under The Bed Of Her Airbnb
TikTok user Arlen was left stunned after finding a discarded receipt for secret surveillance equipment - including audio recorders and hidden cameras at the Airbnb she was staying at.
Arlen shares that after their stay came to an end, she and her boyfriend came across the receipt under the bed while cleaning up the space. Arlen shared the receipts on her TikTok account. The receipts had the full address of the order it was shipped to as well as the items that were purchased including a pocket keychain audio recorder, USB flash drive audio recorder, iPhone case hidden camera, power bank hidden camera, and 16-hour voice activated recorder.
Arlen's video went viral on TikTok for obvious reasons and many concerned users urged Arlen to report the case to the police immediately. Many people shared tricks with Arlen to see where the surveillance equipment was set up.
One person wrote: “Try a [sic] find a way to report it and take pics... they’re not allowed to do that, it’s against the law.”
“Get your money back from Airbnb, hosts are required to disclose camera [sic] and Airbnb WILL give you your money back for this,” another person said.
Someone else added: “Turn off all the lights and look thru your phone camera. If there’s any hidden camera it’ll show on your phone as a red dot.”
“Check all the furniture and see if anything is taped up under them,” a fourth person replied.
After getting concerned responses from many people, Arlen did a follow-up video to share why she stayed at Airbnb in the first place.
Arlen told people that her boyfriend and her sister recently shifted all the way from Utah to Texas a few weeks back and while they are still trying to sort out things and get their own house, they were staying at Airbnb. They check in to different Airbnb’s on a monthly basis to get the best deal and this was the second they had stayed in where they discovered the receipt.
Arlen says that the place was 'affordable but it was “our fault that we didn’t look into the neighborhood” which she described as “sketchy.”
“As soon as we entered the home, we realised that it weren’t the same pictures that were put up on the website,” she adds, noting how the house was “a lot smaller and cramped.”
Further revealing the horrors of living at the Airbnb, the TikToker shares she requested if they could move or have their money back, and was told there was another room downstairs in the fourplex.
The duo managed to live at the place for a month and it wasn't until the end they found the surveillance receipt.
During their clean-up, Arlen’s boyfriend found the receipt under the bed and Arlen lists the surveillance equipment that was ordered.
“So these are things that you would never think are recording you at all,” she says.
She says that smartly the address on the receipt is of the place two streets away from their place so it wasn't exactly sent to Airbnb but somehow it found its way there.
Arlen then shared her opinion as to what might have happened, she said: “What I think happened is somebody took the equipment in there and accidentally dropped that because it was something that was shipped so I’m guessing it just fell out of a box and didn’t even realize it.”
People were freaked out after reading about Arlen's experience
Arlen says in the end they did their best to find the surveillance equipment but were unable to find anything. However, Arlen noted: “These are things you can stare at and not know if they are a camera or not so it was hard without any equipment.”
But they did call an emergency number but said: “they weren’t helpful at all.” Instead, Airbnb were “a bit more helpful” and said they would contact their safety team and asked for the receipt.
Reportedly the safety team got in touch with them and asked a few questions before telling them they will be updated soon.
