Ahh, those lovely 9–5 jobs. Going to work alongside everyone else in the neighborhood.

Reaching your house in time for tea. For most people, it's an ordinary habit.

However, this woman simply cannot handle it.

Unsurprisingly, this has caused her to become extremely popular.

It's not going to be easy, let's face it; going from being a carefree and enjoyable university student to one that can be very shocking.

You can't just skip a meeting and catch up later, even if it could have been an email, and being hungover isn't exactly a good reason for arriving late to work.

Furthermore, you can't just shut off the day and head out for a pint because all of your friends work all the time.

Brielle, therefore, shared on TikTok her experiences entering the workforce in a video with the overlay caption, "qotd in a 9-5 how do u have time for ur life."

Brielle cries while ranting at the camera. "I know I'm probably just being so dramatic and annoying, but this is my first job, like my first 9 to 5 job after college," she says.

"I'm in person, and I'm commuting in the city, and it takes me f**king forever to get there. There's no way I'm gonna be able to afford living in the city right now, so that's off the table."

She explains that she has to get the train at 7.30 am in order to go to work on time, and she doesn't get home until at least 6.15 pm.

By that point, the young woman says, she doesn't "have time to do anything."

"I want to shower, eat my dinner, and go to sleep," Brielle shared. "I don’t have time or energy to cook my dinner either. I don’t have the energy to work out, like, that’s out the window."

The TikToker made it clear that her issue wasn't with the job itself, but rather with the requirement to work in the office and the lengthy commute, which results in her not getting home until over an hour after her workday ends.

"If it was remote you get off at 5 and you’re home and everything’s fine," she says.

"And I know it could be worse. I know I could be working longer, but like, I literally get off [and] it's pitch black. How do you have friends? How do you have time to meet a guy?”

“How do you have time for dating? I don't have time for anything, and I'm so stressed out."

Many other TikTokers supported Brielle in the comments section of the video.

"The 40-hour work week is beyond outdated and your feelings are totally valid," one user wrote.

While another said: "I remember having this same realization… like this is what I couldn’t wait to grow up for? to live like this?"

One person did put: "No one really prepares you for the sh**ty aspects of adulthood and even if we did, the people who need to heed the warnings wouldn’t believe them anyway.”

“That is just how it works. You figure out how to balance things along the way.”

But in response to the criticism, Brielle emphasized her remarks about working life once more, telling The Independent that social norms must shift.

"I want to be able to talk for this next generation and explain that a 40-hour work week plus commute is not necessary for productivity," she said.

"I appreciate all the positive comments from other sympathetic workers and hope that more companies consider following in other countries' footsteps in regards to the work week, especially after so many people are used to being remote after Covid."
