If you're going to ask awkward questions, you need to be prepared for the answer. So when OP's dad's friend asked her if she hated him, she finally relented and told him yes. Cue drama.

Uncles have never really been the most popular part of the family and 'Harold' wasn't really about to break that mold. He was friends with OP's father growing up and had been condescending the entire time that he had known her.

He would consistently infantilize her, call her a brat and judge her choices. He also made it a habit of asking her if she 'hated him'.

OP would usually ignore him but decided not to take any more of Harold's BS when he called her an impolite brat when she had been working on a paper. She started avoiding events Harold would be at from then on.

This time however her father's girlfriend's birthday was coming up and she would have to be there as would Harold. OP now being much older went with her family.

Being 26 however did not change Harold's attitude as he continued to treat her as a child. He kept trying to give her 'helpful advice' such as telling her that she was too young to be a mother.

She went to put her baby down when it got fussy and when she came back, Harold had more condescending comments waiting for her. He interrupted her conversations and injected himself into situations where OP was involved to make condescending comments.

OP decided she had enough when he suggested putting her child up for adoption. As she made her way to the car with her fiancee Harold followed.

He once again pulled out the old 'Do you hate me?' only for OP to finally reply that she indeed did.

Harold was finally at a loss for words and OP's fiancee was proud of her for standing up for herself.

Her father however wasn't happy and argued with her. OP however was feeling guilty for losing her cool.

OP also posted some clarifications after questions came up in the comments.

She took a level-headed approach to the entire situation.

She also clarified that her fiance couldn't come to her defense because Harold made these comments when he was away from them.

Commenters also questioned whether her father knew the extent of Harold's behavior towards OP.

Reddit

Others read between the lines and thought that Harold's behavior was borderline creepy.

Some said Harold was trying to get a rise out of OP for attention and that he had been doing that since she was 19.

Others also called out her father for not noticing this behavior and nipping it in the bud.
