Emmy Abrahamson, a children's book author from Sweden fell in love with an alcoholic homeless man she met on the street. The couple is now married happily and living with their twin kids.

Going back to their fairytale story of how they first met, Emmy was holidaying in Amsterdam in 2006 when Vic Kocula approached her.

By his rough looks, Emmy got an idea that he was homeless because of his “dirty” clothes and hair, but was struck by his “beautiful brown eyes”.

The duo started talking and it was like love at first sight for them. Only after 10 minutes of interaction, Emmy agreed to meet Vic on the same bench a week later for a date.

The time came when Emmy had to go back to Vienna, she carried this fear in her heart that she won't be able to meet Vic ever again. However, three weeks later he called her to say he'd made his way to Austria to find her.

Now 10 years later, the couple who shared their extraordinary story with Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield on This Morning, is married with six-year-old twins, Desta and Til.

Emma has even written a book about her romantic love story, called How to Fall in Love With a Man Who Lives in a Bush.

Emmy told the ITV1 daytime show how she was instantly attracted to Vic, despite his unkempt appearance.

She said: “Straight away I could see he was homeless because he was very dirty and so were his hands and fingernails. He was holding a briefcase which I thought only crazy people did, and later on I found out that's where he held his sleeping bag and cans of beer.

“We started chatting and I realise he had the most beautiful brown eyes I'd ever seen and he made me laugh straight away.”

Emmy also recalls how their relationship blossomed over a picnic lunch.

Apparently, Vic is an American who was backpacking across Europe. Soon he ran out of money and so instead of going back to his country, he decided to stay and started sleeping on the street.

He begged for money which he used to travel, but soon fell into a pattern of drinking heavily.

Vic said: “The wheels fell off and the alcoholism kicked in heavy. It was such a gradual turn that one day I realised: ‘Oh my God, I'm a homeless alcoholic’.”

Emmy was afraid that her romance will be short-lived and once she return to Vienna, she will lose Vic.

Still, she shared her number with him just in case.

Unbeknown to her, he was desperately trying to raise enough money to make his way to see her again.

Emmy said: “I didn't know if I was going to see him again but I couldn't stop thinking about him.

“Three weeks later [in Vienna], I'd just turned 30, and I got a phone call from Vic who said ‘I'm here now’, and we've been together ever since.”

The couple tied the knot in a castle and Vic turned his life around for good by retraining as an electrical engineer.

The couple has told their twins about their unique love story.

Vic said: “We've told them everything that happened. I don't think they grasp the social aspects of the whole thing, they just think it’s funny that daddy lived in a bush.”
