Woman Who Owns The Conjuring House Says Says She Refuses To Go Into The Basement On Her Own
A woman residing in one of the world's most haunted houses has shared her most hair-raising experiences, yet she continues to sleep there regularly.
Madison Heinzen has taken on the role of caretaker for the Rhode Island farmhouse that served as the inspiration for The Conjuring movie, and it's just as eerie as you might imagine.
Madison, a 23-year-old, has had her fair share of experiences with the supernatural, including sightings of "Slenderman" and unsettling encounters with strange growls in the night.
Her family were previous owners of the property, and she was a mere 13 years old when she first watched The Conjuring at the movie theater.
Madison, who currently conducts ghost tours at the farmhouse, has recounted some of her most hair-raising experiences and emphasized her steadfast rule of never venturing into the basement alone.
Madison told The Sun: "The most scared I have ever been was in the earlier days."
"I remember the first day I walked into the house I was excited, everyone was excited and so we all split off into different groups."
"It was me, my mum, my husband now and my brother."
"We were checking out different parts of the house and I heard this, what sounded like a growl to me, it was above my head and I was looking through stuff the owner left behind."
"It freaked me out because I was like, maybe I'm not meant to be touching that stuff, maybe they don't like that."
"So that was one of the most scary experiences just because I heard it and no one else did."
Madison described another "profound" experience that took place during an interview, and on this occasion, she wasn't the sole witness. While sitting at the kitchen table for the interview, the proceedings were abruptly interrupted by a disturbing, piercing sound.
"All of a sudden, clear as day, you hear these two claps," she said.
"We all looked at each other cause we were all standing still and I was like ‘oh my God’ because that was something that happened in the movies that they would play hide and clap."
Even now, Madison remains baffled about the source of the sound, as the entire house is under surveillance with security cameras.
The game of "Hide and Clap" holds a significant role in the eerie atmosphere of the initial Conjuring movie, where characters blindfold themselves and attempt to locate others by relying on the sound of claps.
The film takes a sinister turn when the characters start hearing these claps in unsettling locations, like the basement.
In the actual house, this is a genuine occurrence, and Madison expresses her aversion to being alone in the basement because of its unsettling nature, admitting that she's fearful of encountering something there.
Madison shared an incident during a live-stream from the eerie cellar when a ball inexplicably rolled off by itself.
Furthermore, Madison has encountered "shadow figures" within the house, describing them as resembling a "black mask," akin to Slender Man, with no discernible face, features, or illumination.
"But you could see it casted on the walls and other places, and when you are all alone seeing it you are like ‘Oh my God’."
Even though she might not seem scared by ghostly encounters, the brave woman admitted that she does get frightened sometimes. But she chooses to focus on how amazing these experiences are.
People who go on tours of the spooky house are usually satisfied with what they see. Madison uses special tools to find signs of ghosts.
Her main tools are copper rods called dowsing rods that are believed to move when there's ghostly energy, and spirit boxes that make strange sounds. People think that spirits can use these sounds to talk and make words.
"I have heard spirits say my name, I have had them ask and answer questions and we have heard child's laughter," Madison said.
Another eerie incident occurred when all the guests were assembled, and the distinct sound of "little footsteps" could be heard, patter-pattering around upstairs.
Madison clarified that many haunted houses have a grim history of murder or other tragic events that can be linked to the supernatural activity within.
However, in the case of the Conjuring house, the origin of the haunting remains a mystery, shrouded in uncertainty.
"We have been told it could be native American grounds because a lot of wars were fought, like king Philip's war, which was in the 1700s, but it's really hard to say," Madison said.
"We think there are a lot of factors that are playing into why it is the way it is today."
Strange things have been happening in the house, even when different people owned it.
One person who used to live there said it's a good idea to keep the lights on at night because they felt something spooky was going on.
The house has special plants called frankincense that are hung in the kitchen to keep away bad spirits. But sometimes, these plants move by themselves.
Madison's first scary experience with ghosts happened when she was a kid. Her parents were ghost hunters, so she had an unusual childhood.
She thinks it's important to be very careful when trying to talk to the dead, especially if they were family members who passed away.
She cautioned that spirits have the ability to "play tricks," and without proper guidance, attempting to communicate with them can become "risky."
She provided an example of this by recalling a time when she heard what she believed was her mom scolding her. However, when she went to investigate, she was startled to discover that her mom was nowhere in the vicinity.
"I heard a voice say my name out loud and it freaked me out," she said.
"I thought it was my mum, it sounded distant like your mum nagging you, it was repeatedly ‘Madison, Madison’, so I’m thinking what does my mum need?"
"So I went out to talk to her and she was like ‘I wasn't on that side of the house I was on the complete opposite side’ so there was no way I would have heard it."
"It was really creepy because it sounded just like her yelling at me because we were the only two inside the house."
Even with her unusual hobby, Madison hasn't let it hinder her love life, as she recently got married to her partner, Jacob.
"My husband already knew my dad was a ghost hunter so we started bringing him along and he was like, 'Woah this is so cool’," she said.
"So he's always been really supportive, but I don’t think he would necessarily go out on his own, I think he would take me or another person with him."
