In 2020, San Francisco resident Demi Skipper made headlines for trading a hairpin through 28 swaps and eventually acquiring a house in Clarksville, Tennessee. She documented the journey on social media, receiving praise for her remarkable accomplishment.
Woman Who Traded Hairpin For House Through Series Of Swaps Shares 'The Final Product'

The woman who traded a hairpin for a house over a period of swaps uploaded a video of "the final product."
Following the Covid-19 pandemic and lockdown in May 2020, San Francisco resident Demi Skipper gained notoriety for switching herself up from a single bobby pin to a complete residence.
While the rest of us were learning how to make banana bread and giving each other shabby Covid haircuts, the tenacious barterer, who was just 30 at the time, plainly made the most of her free time.
It all began when Demi watched a TED Talk by Kyle MacDonald, in which he described how he exchanged a paperclip for a house over the course of a year. She then made the decision to pull off the same accomplishment 15 years later.

In only four swaps, Demi was able to transform the basic hairclip she had been given for her mission into a snowboard.
Even if she stopped there, it would still be quite stunning.
But after spending several hours outside of her regular workday at Cash App searching the internet for prospective exchanges, Demi had her goals set far higher than just a snowboard.
Additionally, she sent thousands of messages to potential swappers on Facebook, where she even once had her account suspended owing to her shady behavior.

After a grueling 28 trades, Demi at last received the keys to her own house in Clarksville, Tennessee.
Speaking to LADbible, Demi said: "It wasn't until I saw the house in front of me that I was like, 'Holy crap, these keys go to this house and I own this house.'”
"And that's when I like cried in the front yard. I'm sure the neighbor was like, 'What the hell, our new neighbor is insane.”
"It was really, really surreal."

Demi has since shown the "final product" house to her 267k Instagram followers.
She shared the footage in which she contrasted how the house appeared when she first received the keys with how it currently appears following some sizable upgrades.
Demi revealed: "Officially finished the renovations on the Trade Me Project house and wanted to show you guys the final product.”
"Here's what the house looked like when we first got it."

A "super dated kitchen," a "really rough-looking bathroom," and some uneven flooring that "needed to be completely ripped out" were seen next.
"And here's what it looks like now," Demi continued.
"We fixed the foundation, put in new hardwood floors, completely redid the kitchen with all new appliances, added a washer and dryer in the hallway, new beds [...] and a brand new bathroom."
Oh, and Demi remembered to provide a bed for Shay's dog, the new homeowner.

After the home tour, Demi exclaimed: "I can't believe it all came from a single bobby pin."
What a change it has been.
Since then, viewers have flooded social media with their reactions to the revelation. One Instagram user congratulated: “So beautiful! What an awesome and amazing job!"
"I love it," gushed a second, "looks beautiful, great job!"
A third praised: "You are amazing. You did such an amazing thing."
A fourth commented: "YES!!! I'M SO HAPPY FOR YOU! Time and patience worked out. So glad you accomplished and achieved your goal."
"Damn I want that house," wrote a fifth while another echoed: "You did it! Yessss but I’m really jealous I need this house lol."
A final Instagram user added: "CONGRATULATIONS!!! I was so interested when you started this journey and I’m so proud of you now!”
