T-Rex arm-bend pose

When a cat pulls her front legs into a tight curl, she's demonstrating what's called a T-Rex arm bend pose. This is most often seen when a kitty is lying on her side, and the bend can have various levels of curling. My general observation is the tighter the curl, the cuter the pose. Obviously.

Resting loaf pose

Cats have perfected the loaf pose. The manner in which they tuck their legs and wrap their tails is nothing short of ohm-mazing. When my cats are in full resting loaf pose, their faces radiate pure peace. Sometimes they're so relaxed that their snouts slowly drop to the mat. This is called resting loaf with downward-facing snout. From my point of view, it's the most entertaining one. I'm sure you'll agree.

Resting loaf with twist pose

This one is a "twist" on the resting loaf pose. Best viewed from above, the cat slightly twists his body while moving into the loaf. This pose is not recommended to cats who have full stomachs, as it could adversely affect digestion. You don't want to adversely affect a cat's digestion do you? I didn't think so. Thankfully, my yoga mat is easily cleaned.

Tidy tail-wrap pose

Cats have a knack for wrapping that sweet tail around those tidy little feet. And we all thought it was just a simple cat thing! Nope it's yoga. Cool, huh?

Cold shoulder pose

We're no strangers to cats who ignore us, but who knew that kind of cold shoulder could be a type of asana? They don't even require a mat to demonstrate this pose I see it all day long. Leave it to cats to turn anything into art, even a brush-off.

Downward-facing tongue pose

A kitty's perfect limberness allows him to stretch his little pink tongue all the way down to his little pink bum. This pose is known for its form and practicality, and usually comes with slurp-tastic sound effects. Yum.

Lazy side-plank legs pose

Anyone who practices yoga knows that planks can be challenging, but side planks can be extra trying. You have to have some nice arm, leg, and core strength to make this one happen. This is why I haven't tried it yet. Ha ha, I'll get there. Until then, I think I'll follow my cat's example with the lazy side-plank pose. I can certainly lie on my side and allow my legs to leisurely dangle. This is my go-to pose while I'm watching TV, so I'm already ahead of the game. Oh, and I'm available for personal instruction!
