You Have Been Drinking Water Wrong Your Entire Life And It Is Affecting Your Health
Big news: You're drinking water all wrong!
You've always known it. With various protective mechanisms, your body has been trying to tell you for years that you are doing something wrong. Now is the time to make the change for the sake of your body.
Really, it's true.
So, you take a drink when you get thirsty. It's that simple, right? Well, not quite.
Ayurvedic medicine holds that you should only drink water while sitting down.
The kidneys function better when you are in a sitting position. If you can, you should always sit down when you drink water. Something else you might not know is that drinking water while standing can cause nerve tension. Drinking water while you stand can also cause indigestion, so that is another reason why you should sit down when you drink water.
You also shouldn't drink water after eating a meal according to Ayurvedic tradition.
Let your stomach focus on digestion.
Some sources even claim that when you drink standing up, water splashes dangerously against your stomach walls.
This can harm the stomach over time and disrupt the digestive process.
Ayurveda is silent on that one. But the tradition does say you should drink lukewarm water.
It is believed that drinking cold water takes the body out of equilibrium by knocking it out of its optimal working temperature.
Drink in small, gentle sips. No gulping!
Big gulps don't quench your thirst as much as small sips.
As far as that old advice about drinking eight glasses of water per day, Ayurveda disagrees.
Drinking too much can cause symptomatic hyponatremia, a condition in which the sodium levels in the blood become dangerously low. Gatorade is useful in replenishing sodium and electrolytes in the body.
You should drink when you feel thirsty. When your thirst is quenched, you're cleared to stop drinking.
Start every morning with a nice, long pull of tepid water. It's good for you, according to the ancient wisdom of the Ayurveda.
