You're Procrastinating WRONG! Tips From A Pro!
#1 It's Serious Business.
The art of procrastination is serious. This isn't just something you glaze over and do halfheartedly. If you're not going to do something, you should not do it well. We procrastinate because we would rather be doing something else.
#2 You Can't Just Do Nothing.
You have to change your mindset to be a Pro at procrastination. You are never "doing nothing." You are doing important things in place of the thing you're putting off. Instead of writing your article, you're doing your laundry. Instead of exercising, you're catching up with friends. Instead of doing the dishes, you're meditating. Catch the drift?
#3 Get Ready To Do It.
Now that you're ready to start on the work you don't want to do, you need to do it perfectly. Find the perfect starting point. You can NOT do this wrong. Make sure everything is set up correctly. Rethink it all, you're probably doing it wrong. It's now time to really get your head into the game.
#4 Get Ready For Real This Time!
Obviously you're head wasn't in the game and hour or so ago. Now you really need to get ready. Turn on some music. Pump yourself up for this. You're going to knock it out of the park....
#5 Or you could rethink it.
You have other things that really need to be started first don't you? What about your laundry? Did you remember to switch the load? Don't you need to do more research before you start that paper? Have you eaten yet today? It's about lunch time, maybe time for another cup of coffee?
#6 Take A Break
Wow! All this procrastination is exhausting. You can't go around working all the time. Take a break. Just one episode won't hurt. We all need self-care, too.
#7 Time For Reflection.
Now that you've done all the things that you "needed" to do before the task you HAVE to do, it's time to sit and reflect on how it's still looming over your head. Go ahead, time this time to stress over how hard it is for a good bit. Build your anxiety up until you're good and stressed.
#8 Time To Connect!
It's no good stressing yourself out. Why don't you see what's happening outside of your little procrastination bubble? You wouldn't want to be left out of the loop would you?
#9 Time's Up!
Alright, you've put it off long enough! Get to it! No more games, push yourself into a frenzy and rush through it all. Finish that pot of coffee you made earlier, down your energy drink. Feel the burn!
#10 Realize You Should Get Back To Work.
This is the most important step of Pro-procrastinators, tell yourself you won't don't it again tomorrow. No more procrastinating. You're going to get back to work. Remember to cut yourself some slack, you got through today and you'll get through tomorrow, too.
