There are few stories that are able to touch our hearts in these times where almost all humans are plagued with selfishness. This absolute beautiful story happened a few years back where an unlikely duo happened to become best friends and showed the world the real meaning behind beautiful friendships.

Chris Salvatore was 31 when he moved to the city and didn't really know anyone. It was then, that he introduced himself to his old neighbor. Norma Cook was 89-years-old at the time and lived alone with her cat, Hermes. Eventually, Chris invited Norma to move in with him, as she needed constant care.

“She couldn’t be happier that I asked. I was over there visiting most days anyway. The only other option was for her to go into a facility. I just couldn’t do that to someone who is like my own grandmother.”

Today

Only a few years later, Norma, 89 suffered from health-related issues and it was at this time that Chris stepped in and offered his care. Suffering from multiple health complications, as well as leukemia meant her medical expenses were starting to pile up as well. So, Christ set up a GoFundMe for Norma and the donations started pouring in.

However, their time spent together was only limited and four years after meeting, Norma passed away peacefully.

Even though Norma is no more, but this beautiful friendship is to remain eternal.

“She taught me to love so much deeper than I ever could imagine possible. Norma opened the hearts of so many people during a time when it was desperately needed. She was a truly powerful woman who had the ability to bring people together who may not have crossed paths otherwise.”

Chris shared the sad news of Norma's death and shared that all she wanted was to pass from this world with her dignity intact, which Chris ensured till her time here.

Their beautiful relation is the reminder of how we should really be treating each other and that includes whether we’re a neighbor or family member, or a stranger.

It’s with a heavy heart that I share the news that earlier this morning the world lost a truly inspiring, beautiful woman. Norma is now resting peacefully in the eternal and while she may no longer physically be with us, her spirit will continue to fill the hearts of so many people. Perhaps Norma’s lasting legacy is that her story helped the world to see the true meaning of love. Norma reminded me that we all are created to love and all desire to be loved.”

Chris told TODAY that Norma was the grandmother that he lost and Norma considered him the grandson she never had. Taking lessons, perhaps this holidays we can learn to be a little more kind towards each other. Happy Holidays!
