YouTuber Norme has now spent more than 25 days isolated in total darkness.
A YouTuber trying to complete a full month in solitary confinement has raised concern among his viewers as he continues streaming his experience live.
Everyone enjoys a little peace and quiet every once in a while, but for most of us, a few hours alone is enough before we’re ready to get back to the world and be around people again.
However, YouTuber Norme has taken solitude to a whole new level by challenging himself to spend an entire month in solitary confinement, hoping to set a new World Record along the way.
A quick look on the Guinness World Records website shows there isn’t currently a specific record for the longest time spent in solitary confinement.
The closest result that appears is actually a record for the longest time on death row.
With that record standing at 45 years, Norme is still a long way from it, but the fact that such a record is the closest comparison speaks volumes about the difficulty of what he’s trying to accomplish alone in the dark.
Norme has been streaming the entire experience for viewers, and as of November 10, the livestream counter shows he's been at it for over 618 hours—more than 25 days.
In his room, Norme can often be seen pacing back and forth or lying down on a small makeshift bed, with large holes in the walls around him suggesting he’s had some intense moments during this challenge.
Viewers who want to interact with the stream can do so by sending money, with Norme offering certain actions for a price.
For example, $5 will prompt him to do a handstand, $20 gets him in a 'straightjacket for 15 minutes,' and $50 will mean 'mouth tape for one hour.'
For a $10 payment, Norme can even get some food.
Though the YouTuber occasionally leaves the room for short breaks, presumably for bathroom visits or to eat, viewers are starting to voice concern over his mental health as the days continue to add up on the livestream.
One viewer shared: "this is genuinely depressing," while another asked: "he has done this willingly[?]"
"They gotta go get this guy this is not normal," commented a third person.
Some viewers have even suggested that Norme might be risking 'permanent damage' to his brain, although there are still others rooting for him to complete his challenge.
One person encouraged him by saying: "It's been 23 days you got 7 days left you got this bro,"
Norme has confessed that he's come close to giving up several times during the challenge, but for now, he’s determined to stick it out.
This challenging livestream comes just months after Norme made another intense attempt to set a record for the longest time without sleep.
Although he managed to stay awake for an impressive 264 hours, he ultimately fell short of the official record of 453 hours.
