Angelina Jolie's Older Brother Opens Up About Their Relationship 24 Years After Infamous Red Carpet Kiss

Angelina Jolie's rarely seen older brother, recently took to an interview, where he opened up about his unique bond with his famous sister.

The Oscars have witnessed many surprising moments, but none as remarkable as the kiss Jolie shared with her brother James Haven. 

This happened in 2000 during her Academy Award acceptance speech for "Girl, Interrupted," where she famously declared her affection for him, saying, "I’m in shock, and I’m so in love with my brother right now. He just held me and said he loved me, and I know he’s so happy for me. And, um, thank you for that."

The siblings' close bond became a hot topic after they shared a kiss on the lips at the Vanity Fair afterparty, drawing significant media attention and even gracing magazine covers. 

This incident followed a similar display of affection at the Golden Globe awards earlier that year.

Breaking his silence on the 90Who10 podcast, Haven opened up about his deep-rooted connection with Jolie.

He specifically touched on his protective nature towards her and her children during the highly publicized divorce from Brad Pitt.

Haven reflected on their relationship Haven said: "That's where it all started, it started with the protection of her and then of her children, my nieces and nephews."

"There are those massively formative years, they're becoming young adults in their early 20s."

Highlighting the importance of safeguarding Jolie and her kids during their formative years, a sentiment echoing their late mother, Marcheline Bertrand's teachings. 

He expressed, "[It's] a quality I got from my mom... I set my life up so I can be present with whatever the situation."

"The formative years, the young adults they're going to become, I want to be there for them - or for her - whatever she's going through."

This marked the first time Haven has publicly shed light on his relationship with Jolie and their collaborative efforts behind the scenes.

He hinted at future joint ventures, stating, "And I know there's going to be many things in the future that we'll probably be working on...there's many things in the future that I think we'll do together."

Reflecting on the Vanity Fair party incident in a 2007 Daily Mail interview, Haven clarified, "I did not give Angie a French kiss. It was something simple and lovely."

"She was about to go off to Mexico to finish filming Original Sin with Antonio Banderas. I congratulated her on the Oscar win and gave her a quick kiss on the lips."

"It was snapped and became a big thing."

Jolie herself addressed the incident with Entertainment Weekly, dismissing any "incest rumors" and emphasizing the kiss as a mere expression of "brotherly love." 

She emphasized: "My parents really loved that moment, and that’s what will always matter,"
