A woman who once worked in a brothel has opened up about some of the most surprising secrets of the sex industry—including stories about clients she never expected to see walk through the door.

Krystal Galtry, who now works as a creator on OnlyFans and is based in Australia, didn’t always earn her living online. Before that, she worked in a brothel, a job she took on after struggling to make ends meet.

Like many others, Krystal lost her job at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. Things changed when she crossed paths with an events promoter who unexpectedly offered her work.

In a conversation with News.com.au, Krystal recalled the moment she got her new gig, saying: "He gave nothing away. Just, 'wear black and look presentable'."

But once she showed up, she realized that the job was not what she expected. Krystal had been hired to work as a brothel door girl. She was later promoted to the role of 'madam'—someone who manages the daily operations inside the brothel.

Her earliest responsibilities were pretty straightforward. She kept track of which rooms were occupied, who was inside, and how long each appointment lasted.

For Krystal, one of the most difficult parts of the job had nothing to do with clients. It was the emotional toll of seeing co-workers who weren’t there for the right reasons.

She explained: "One of the hardest parts is dealing with workers who come into the industry for the wrong reasons. They're often struggling mentally or emotionally,"

"They usually don't last long, but while they're there, it can be tough watching them try to cope."

There are definitely a lot of stereotypes about who actually visits a brothel. But according to Krystal, most of those assumptions just aren’t true.

When talking about the kinds of clients she dealt with, she shared: "Many were married, wealthy and into submission. When you spend that much of your life in a position of control, what entices you most is letting go it."

"It's all about power. The client wants to be dominated and made to feel completely out of control."

Even though working in a brothel still carries plenty of stigma, Krystal doesn’t view her past through a lens of shame. In fact, she sees it very differently.

Reflecting on her time there, she said: "At first, I was nervous about people's reactions, so I kept it private. But now I say it proudly. People assume we're only in it for the money. We're all drug-addicted. We only do it because we have no other options."

"The truth? Many of us do it because we love our bodies and their power to create a safe, accepting space where people can feel seen, cared for, and understood."

"Most women in this industry genuinely love their work. The sex industry can be incredibly empowering," Krystal added.

"Personally, it brought back my confidence."
