During what should have been one of the happiest moments of his life, a groom was left feeling betrayed after a prank pulled at his wedding left him shaken and humiliated.
A groom's special day quickly turned into a nightmare after his new bride and some close friends decided to pull a "trashy" prank. The stunt completely "destroyed" the trust he had in his marriage and left him feeling deeply "humiliated.".
"Wife says I need to get over it, but I can't stop obsessing over a prank that ruined my wedding experience and left me furious," groaned the heartbroken groom in an emotional anonymous Reddit post.

The groom explained that it was actually their wedding planner who talked his bride and their friends into blindfolding him for the garter belt moment.
This part of the wedding is known for being a little edgy. It usually involves the groom sensually removing a piece of the bride's undergarments—sometimes using just his hands, or even his mouth—before tossing it to a group of single men, similar to how the bouquet is thrown.
However, in this groom's case, the light-hearted tradition took an unexpected and uncomfortable turn.
"Sitting in the chair in place of my wife, my groomsman was in shorts with the garter around his thigh," he shared. "My wife stood behind him and was talking to me as they walked me over, to keep me fooled into thinking it was her."

"On their instructions, I got down on my knees and began reaching for what I thought were my wife's legs," the story continued. "Once I found the leg, I found the garter and began pulling it down. But at that moment, I heard my wife saying, 'With your mouth! With your mouth!"
What he didn’t know at the time was that they had swapped his bride for one of the groomsmen without telling him.
"So I leaned forward and grasped the garter belt in my mouth, to the shrieks and applause of the crowd," said the groom. "With the garter in my teeth, I pulled it down his leg … Once I had the garter, they told me to stand up and take off my blindfold."
"When I took off the blindfold, everyone burst into even louder laughter," he remembered painfully. "For a moment, the entire energy of everyone at the wedding was focused on nothing besides laughing at me, at me being the sole butt of the joke."
"It felt awful."

It is hard to imagine not feeling terrible after being blindsided like that on what is supposed to be one of the most meaningful days of your life.
Whether it's smashing cake in someone’s face or tossing a bride into a pool for laughs, these kinds of wedding pranks can often be signs of serious "red flags" in the relationship.
According to the groom, this particular prank "destroyed my trust and sense of intimacy" he had in his relationship with his new wife.
Trying his best not to ruin the mood during the reception, the embarrassed groom forced himself to smile throughout the evening, basically "sucking up" just to get through the night.
But during their honeymoon, he finally opened up to his wife and told her the "harsh" truth about how the prank made him feel.

"After at first apologizing a bit, she got upset and left me sitting out there," he admitted. "I think I just kept going because I felt hurt and wanted to maybe make her feel bad as well, to be honest."
"Since then, it's been a difficult subject," the groom added quietly. "I've told her I don't want to hear about the wedding. I don't want to write thank you notes, look at pictures. If it was tomorrow, I wouldn't make plans to celebrate our anniversary."
Interestingly, his frustration isn’t just focused on his wife, even though she was part of the prank.
"Watching the video, I find myself looking at the laughing faces of family and friends, and there's a part of me — that I'd never act on — that wants nothing more than to punch them all in their faces," he revealed, while also sharing that he now "can't stand" the groomsman who dressed up as the bride to trick him.
"I literally cannot stop my mind from replaying it over and over, and I get mad again every time," the groom admitted. "I tell myself sometimes it was assault because I was tricked into putting my mouth on another man's leg [without] my consent."
Many people online sided with the groom, suggesting he talk to a therapist, consider separating from his wife, or even take legal action against the wedding planner who was behind the whole idea.
On the other hand, some less sympathetic commenters told him to "wash the sand out of [his] vagina" and move on. The groom, trying to find some humor in it all, simply chuckled and responded, "Ha. Fair play."
