A Japan Airlines plane burst into flames on the runway of Tokyo's Haneda Airport with hundreds of passengers on board.
In a dramatic incident at Tokyo's Haneda Airport, a Japan Airlines plane caught fire on the runway with hundreds of passengers on board.
The aircraft, JAL flight 516, had arrived from New Chitose Airport in Japan.
Footage broadcast by local news channels showed the plane engulfed in flames as it moved along the runway.
Despite the alarming situation, all passengers were able to safely exit the aircraft.
Japan Airlines confirmed that the 367 passengers and 12 crew members on board were evacuated using the plane's inflatable slides to reach the safety of the runway.
Emergency response teams, including fire crews, quickly converged at the site to battle the blaze and bring the situation under control.
Adding to the complexity of the incident, a spokesperson for Japan's coast guard revealed that the passenger plane had collided with one of their aircraft, which was scheduled to head to Niigata for earthquake relief efforts.
This collision comes in the wake of a recent powerful earthquake in Japan that claimed the lives of at least 48 people, with ongoing rescue operations.
The collision and its circumstances are now under investigation.
While the pilot of the coast guard's plane managed to evacuate and alert authorities, there were five other individuals on board.
According to reports from Kyodo news agency and the Tokyo fire department, these five individuals have been located, but their current condition remains unknown.
As a result of this fiery incident, all flights from Haneda Airport were temporarily suspended.
Videos from the scene revealed the severity of the fire, showing the passenger plane eventually splitting in two.
Passengers on board the Japan Airlines flight captured footage of the conditions inside during the emergency, with smoke reducing visibility and flames clearly seen outside the plane's windows.
The fire seemed to have originated in the plane's left wing and quickly engulfed the entire aircraft.
Despite the valiant efforts of the fire crews, the Japan Airlines Airbus A350 was severely damaged by the fire.
Fortunately, everyone on board was able to evacuate onto the runway and move to a safe distance from the blaze.
While the Coast Guard aircraft's captain managed to escape, concerns now shift to the well-being of the five individuals who were on board at the time of the collision.
