If you've ever been curious about what would happen if you pulled the key out of the ignition while the car was still moving, then this video might just be for you. One brave YouTuber decided to go ahead and find out—so the rest of us don't have to take that risk.

YouTube is packed with people doing wild experiments, especially the kind you'd never dare try on your own. And there's one particular channel that seems to specialize in testing out all the car-related questions you never thought would actually get answered.

From pouring vodka into the gas tank to jamming a manual transmission into reverse at high speed, AutoVlog is known for pushing his cars to the edge. All in the name of curiosity, science, and a bit of fun too.

Now, he's taken things a step further with a new experiment that might just be his most surprising yet. This time, he decided to find out what really happens if you take the car key out while you're still driving.

"Now most people wouldn't have even thought of this." he says while explaining the premise of the video, "because why would you take the key out while you're driving, but this is all for fun so let's find out." So naturally, he went ahead and did it.

For this experiment, he chose to use a 1994 Ford Ranger. It's an old-school vehicle by today’s standards, which made it the perfect pick for something like this. Even back in its day, it was a pretty basic ride, so it seemed like the ideal candidate to test this risky idea.

Surprisingly, AutoVlog was able to pull the key out of the ignition while the truck was still moving and nothing major happened. Even more shocking, he found out that the truck could be started and shut off without even using the key at all.

Turns out, the ignition system on that old Ford Ranger works in a way that allows you to simply twist it with your hand to start the car. The key just acts like a handle to make the turning easier. This basically means someone could jump in and drive off without needing a key at all, which he found to be pretty alarming.

Thankfully, newer cars aren’t quite so easy to mess with. So he tried the same thing with his much newer 2015 Ford F150 to see if anything was different.

Turns out not every car needs a key to run YouTube/AutoVlog

As it turns out, Ford seems to have solved this issue in the two decades since the ’94 Ranger. In the newer F150, it’s impossible to remove the key while driving. Although, if you really wanted to, you could still shut the engine off mid-drive.

This whole thing just goes to show how far car tech has come. Modern vehicles are loaded with features that are designed not just for convenience, but also for safety. They help keep you from doing something that might end badly and make your car a whole lot harder to steal too.

And of course, people in the comments section couldn't help but join in on the fun. One person cracked a joke, saying: "the only anti-theft feature is the manual trans."

Another user chimed in with a nostalgic take: "this man's really answering all the thoughts that I had as a kid." Honestly, it’s kind of awesome when someone actually tests out those random ideas we all had as kids but never acted on.
