A woman has stirred up a heated online debate over whether she should have given up her plane seat to let a young boy look out the window.

Plane etiquette is a hot topic that seems to ignite strong opinions every time it's discussed. From whether passengers should give up their seats so families can sit together to debates about reclining chairs, everyone seems to have a take on what's right or wrong.

This latest incident involves a 27-year-old woman who shared her perspective after being asked to switch seats by a father during their flight.

The woman explained that she suffers from lupus, a chronic autoimmune disease that causes the immune system to attack healthy tissues.

Because of her condition, she always pays extra to book a window seat, ensuring her journey is as comfortable as possible.

"I always pay extra for a window seat upfront so I don't bother anyone and can sleep the whole time," she revealed on Reddit. "I have chronic pain and my pain meds make me sleepy."

Not long after boarding her six-hour flight, the man sitting next to her politely asked if she would consider swapping seats so his seven-year-old son could enjoy sitting by the window.

The father explained that it was his son's first time on an airplane, and he had been excited about looking out the window during the trip. "I told him no and that I paid extra to have this specific seat. He said that it's his son's first airplane ride and that he would really like to look out the window."

"So I said; I'll keep the window open for him then as I have an eye mask I can wear," she wrote, describing her response. "He said I was being difficult and to just let him switch my seats. So I asked if he would pay the price I did and he said I'm being ridiculous. I put my headphones in and ignored the father."

The child spent the entire flight expressing his frustration about not getting the window seat. The dad continued to push for the swap, but the woman held firm in her decision. "It became such an issue the flight attendant came over. She even asked me to switch seats to keep peace but I stuck to my guns."

Reflecting on the situation, she said: "I told a couple of my friends with kids this story and they said I was unreasonable."

Reddit users quickly chimed in with a variety of responses. "Anytime somebody starts badgering you about seat switching, immediately hit your flight attendant call button," someone commented.

"Make it clear to the flight attendant that you will be sitting in the seat that you paid for and you need them to intervene with the passenger harassing you about that."

Another user, identifying as a parent, supported the woman's decision. "If he promised his kid a window seat, then he should have booked one."

Meanwhile, another commenter criticized the dad, calling him 'entitled,' and added: "You also don't need to qualify why you wanted that seat. You chose it and you paid for it - and the reason is nobody's business but yours."
