When a Toddler's "Monster" Turned Out to Be a Massive Beehive

It's often easy to dismiss a child's imaginative tales, but one mom found a very real reason to listen closely to her toddler’s fears about "monsters" in the room.

A Child's Monster Tale Turns Real

Drawing parallels to the Disney classic "Monster's Inc.," it's not unheard of for children to believe there are monsters lurking in their bedrooms.

This was the case for one of TikToker Ashley's children, who insisted she had heard monsters in her room.

While many parents might dismiss such claims as a child's active imagination, Ashley decided to investigate further.

An Unbelievable Discovery

To her astonishment, the "monsters" weren't fictional creatures like Mike Wazowski hiding under the bed but were, in fact, about 50,000 bees living within the walls of her home.

Ashley shared her shocking find in a TikTok video, which has since garnered over nine million views, where she described the situation as "what nightmares are made of."

A Humane Response to an Unnerving Situation

Instead of opting to exterminate the massive bee colony, Ashley took a more humane approach.

She contacted a beekeeper who safely removed the bees from her home.

On her TikTok account, @classashley, she updated her followers that on the first day, the beekeeper removed 20,000 bees along with over 100 pounds of honeycomb.

The beekeeper was able to locate the queen bee, which allowed him to relocate the entire swarm to a new hive.

The Extensive Removal Process

Ashley continued to provide updates, the latest of which came yesterday (Sunday, April 28).

She revealed that it took three separate extractions to completely rid her home of the bees.

The ordeal sparked a lot of curiosity and questions from her followers.

Dealing with Public Curiosity

Many wondered how Ashley and her family had not noticed the thousands of bees sooner.

In response to these inquiries, Ashley said:

"I would ask the same thing. It only takes a couple of bees and a swarm that you might be able to see to become a colony that's 50,000 bees strong."

She explained that the 100 pounds of honeycomb found would have taken the bees about eight months to produce.

How Did the Bees Enter?

It's believed that the bees entered through the chimney of Ashley's century-old house.

Another question raised was whether Ashley had checked the rest of her home for more hives.

To this, she responded, "We have, it's just through that one section. We are lucky honestly to get it before it did."

The Cost of Bee Removal

Unfortunately, the cost of the bee removal is coming directly from Ashley’s pocket, as her home insurance does not cover any pest or insect damage.

According to Forbes, the cost of bee removal can range between $150 and $500—a painful hit to the wallet indeed.
