The driver didn't hesitate to tuck in to the meal after seeing there was no tip
A DoorDash driver has stirred up mixed opinions online after he decided to dig into a customer’s order because they didn’t leave him a tip.
Waiting for your food to arrive can feel like forever, especially when you’re eagerly anticipating one of your favorite meals.
The moment you get that "order confirmed" notification, the countdown begins until you can finally enjoy it.
Now, imagine finding out that someone else had already helped themselves to part of your order. So, how would you feel?
In his clip, the delivery driver showed the bag of food to the camera as he sat in the front seat of his car. But rather than starting the engine and setting off towards the home of the paying customer, he began criticizing them for failing to tip.
That’s exactly what happened when a TikTok user and DoorDash driver, who goes by the handle @sidehustleaddict, chose to snack on a customer’s meal after noticing they hadn’t left him a tip.
In the video, the driver is seen sitting in his car, holding the bag of food.
Instead of starting the car and heading to the customer’s home, he begins criticizing them for not tipping.
“Oh st, look what we got today, fam, haha!” he exclaims in the clip.
“A DoorDash non-tipper again.
"Oh man, yesterday DoorDash was doing a reminder for DoorDash non-tippers to tip or else you're gonna wait like 3 hours for your Taco Bell, at least.”
He continues by saying, “But apparently these DoorDash non-tippers didn’t understand—let’s see what he's got in the bag.”
He then rummages through the bag, pulling out a steak breakfast chalupa and a packet of diablo sauce.
“This dude likes it spicy,” he jokes, before adding, “You know, I be telling these DoorDash non-tippers, right, no tip, I eat!”
Without hesitation, the driver takes a bite of the chalupa.
While he seems to have no problem with his decision, the video has sparked a range of reactions online.
Some viewers found the whole situation amusing, leaving laughing emojis in the comment section.
However, others felt that the TikToker was wrong for eating the customer’s food.
One commenter said, “Happy I go and get my own food, can’t be giving free money to people just driving.”
Another added, “Hope you get fired bro—idk why you’d flex not doing your job.”
In an interview with Business Insider, some DoorDash drivers shared their views on what they consider an appropriate tip.
One suggested that customers should “tip based on the size of the order.”
After speaking with ten delivery workers, it was generally agreed that a "reasonable tip" falls somewhere between 15% to 20% of the total bill.
